Why Archived Schedules?  Only current schedules are available for boats around the Gulf of La Spezia. We use an archive of the most recent schedules (in pdf format) to present an entire year. The schedules are very similar year to year, so spend January planning your next vacation, but verify before you travel if your schedule is time sensitive.

There Service to Portofino? There is Portofino service from the Cinque Terre / Gulf of La Spezia only in the high Summer schedule, which in 2016 may start around June 15. Check the website links below under More Boat / Ferry Info for other (much closer) departure points to Portofino.

Are the Cinque Terre hiking trails open?  Unequivocally yes. While a few trails might be closed at any given point, there are always plenty of trails open.  Use this link Cinque Terre National Park Trail Status to check.

The Cinque Terre Boat / Ferry Schedules

The vineyard terraces of Cinque Terre in early spring.                   circa 1987
Also written Cinqueterre, these are five small villages on the dramatic Ligurian coast. The villages are Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso. All have train service, and all except Corniglia have ferry service. The area is known for it's wonderful hiking trails and pretty scenery. Since the trails are often steep and sometimes rocky, using the boats appeals to many, and it's a beautiful way to see the area. Consider hiking in one direction, and taking the boat or the train to return. Do not drive to the villages!

On some timetables, Cinque Terre is written '5 Terre'.

FAQ Should I bring guidebooks? Definitely, it's hard to find guides in English in Italy. We use this one locally: Liguria: The Italian Riviera / Whitehouse. The most popular Italy Guides on Amazon are Rick Steves Italy  &  Lonely Planet Italy(Click links for the Amazon page).  Should I bring a map? We think it's easier to arrive with one. For driving get 1:200,000 scale. We prefer the DeAgostini and Touring Club Italiano Touring Club Liguria Map (Amazon Link) series over Michelin. You can also buy one in Italy -larger bookstores and some autostrada rest stops have good selections. Should I opt for a GPS for a rental car? They are expensive and many feel they are less useful in Italy. If you haven't used one before, don't start in Italy. Consider bringing one from home with an Italy/Europe map loaded -both US & European cars are 12V. Alternatives include a smartphone app or downloading relevant Google Maps for offline use.
